Dear Colleagues,

Greetings! On behalf of the Executive Committee, I’m excited to extend warm wishes for a healthy and successful year ahead in our principals’ community.  May 2025 be filled with enriching experiences for both students and educators, fostering professional growth and meaningful connections among colleagues. Let’s start the new year by diving into the following encouraging report:

  1. HKAHSS 60th Anniversary: Hong Kong Education Colloquium (HKEC) 2025 cum Celebration Luncheon (17/1)
We are thrilled to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Association of the Heads of Secondary Schools (HKAHSS) with the upcoming event: The HKAHSS 60th Anniversary Hong Kong Education Colloquium (HKEC) 2025.  Themed “Raising the Bar: To Go Above and Beyond (上下求索.跨高越遠),” this significant occasion will take place on 17 January 2025 (Friday) at The Mira Hong Kong.  Join us as we reflect on our journey, honor our achievements, and explore new horizons in secondary education together with educators and leaders from across the region.  Here are the details:

The Aim of the HKEC 2025 is to provide a platform for local and international scholars to discuss the most pressing debates in education today, to gain insights for our education community and illuminate our way for future secondary education in Hong Kong.

The Theme of the HKEC 2025 is “Raising the Bar: To Go Above and Beyond”.  The central theme champions exceeding present educational standards to achieve excellence across various facets of education, detailed through the following sub-themes:

    • Academic (Curriculum): Reinventing the curriculum to cultivate critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability, utilizing interdisciplinary teaching and technology to personalize learning and prepare students.
    • Students’ Development (Pastoral Care, Mental Health): Focusing on the whole student, this sub-theme integrates support for personal growth and mental health alongside academics, ensuring a supportive environment for students to prosper comprehensively.
    • Professionalism (Teacher/Principal Leadership; Succession): Highlighting the critical role of school leadership, this sub-theme advocates for ongoing professional development, a collaborative culture, and strategic leadership succession to sustain excellence.

The 3 sub-themes are intricately connected to the main theme, each playing a significant role in propelling the education sector towards greater heights.  By focusing on enhancing curriculum delivery, ensuring the well-being and development of students, and fostering professionalism among educators, the goal is to not just raise the bar, but to create an educational experience that is truly above and beyond current standards.

Why attend the HKEC 2025?  We hope that the professional dialogues developed in the HKEC 2025 can lead us to look for way forward for Hong Kong’s education; to meet new makers; to share ideas, experiences and best practices for education; to explore new trends and discover innovative solutions.

Whom is the HKEC 2025 for?  The HKEC 2025 brings together all stakeholders including principals, vice-principals, teachers, school-sponsoring bodies, government officials, university scholars, parents and NGOs.  We hope to create an interactive setting for dialogues throughout the sessions.
