Dear Colleagues,
It has finally come to the end of the hectic and challengingyear of 2019-2020. Let us take a deep breath and gladly embrace the coming new school year. We wish you all the best in 2020-2021!
1.A warm welcome to Newly Appointed Principals
2. Tea Gathering for Newly Appointed Principals
To support our newly appointed colleagues, especially during this challenging period, we will continue our past practices to facilitate their early integration into this big family. We will conduct the first round of sunshine calls in these few weeks and arrange a tea gathering for them on 15 September 2020 (4:00-6:00p.m.) to strengthen the bonding as well as share their experience at the helm and whatever issues of concerns.
All NAPs are sincerely invited to join. Please click HERE for more details and register if you have not done so. We look forward to meeting you soon.
3.Zoom Online Retreat 2020: Unprecedented Challenges 《從未如此經歷過》… Part 1
As mentioned in the previous newsletter, we have originally planned to hold a retreat for members in May but this could not be materialized due to COVID-19. As the pandemic is still severe, we are organizing an Online Zoom Retreat on 21 September 2020 (4:00-6:00p.m.) instead. We have invited Rev. Fr. Kwan Tsun Tong Thomas, a Catholic priest, to lead us through his input, quiet time and sharing to ponder upon our role as an administrator, a pastor so as to get along with ourselves and at the same time still hold onto the true values and beliefs in the field of education. The retreat will resolutely provide you with good food for thought, reflection and encouragement which you should not miss. Please click HERE for details and registration.
We still hope to organize an in-person retreat later when the situation becomes more stable.

7. Final report on the Needs Assessment of Students’ Mental Health Survey for Secondary School Principals
The Survey was co-organized by the Synergy Against Adversities Mental Health Consultancy Group (members: Dr. Choi Yuen Wan, Professor Joseph Lau, Dr. Stanley Ho, Dr. Christian Chan, Ms. Cindy Choi) and the Hong Kong Association of Heads of Secondary Schools (HKAHSS). It was conducted during the period from 17 April to 6 May 2020. All secondary school principals in Hong Kong were invited and 279 of them completed and returned the online questionnaires. The final report has been prepared by Professor Joseph Lau of the Chinese University of Hong Kong on behalf of the Consultancy Group and the HKAHSS.
The survey provides us with valuable data about what and why additional resources are required to promote the mental health of secondary school students in Hong Kong. The findings and report have also been shared with Mr. Wong Yan Lung, the Chairman of Mental Health Advisory Committee, for the planning of suitable supporting measures and resources to ensure students’ mental health. We would like to thank you for your kind support to the survey. Please click HERE to read the report.
Alarming figures from different recent studies confirm that we are truly facing a “Mental Health Tsunami”. These findings strongly speak for the need to support schools and teachers in our caring work for students at risk. Let us join hands to ride out the storm together!
8. Farewell to Our Comrades and Arrangement of Acting Chairman
The Executive Committee would take this opportunity to send our greatest appreciation to those who have served in schools for so many years and will be retiring or taking early retirement in the September. Our dearest Chairman, Mr. Tang Chun Keung Teddy, and Executive Committee member, Mr. Lo Shiu Ming Tommy, are among those. We wish them good health, good luck and much happiness throughout the year. We would like to announce that Mr. Lin Chun Pong, our Vice Chairman, will serve as the Acting Chairman with effect from 1 September 2020. Please be assured that we will continue to strive for the high quality of education in Hong Kong.
